An intuitive process of mark making, inspired by nature, without rules, without reference material.
Vicky Lord's painting process is all about play.
From start to finish the forms that take shape are layered using brushes, palette knives, combs, sticks and a rubber scraper. Water (and sometimes ink) is applied to blend, wash and wipe away medium and create areas of translucency.
Vicky works predominantly in acrylics, on canvas and paper. Sometimes with the addition of graphite, charcoal and ink.
Beginning with loose mark making and laying down of paint, Vicky then take steps to 'cut in' with solid or semi solid areas of paint. Sometimes this selection process of blocking out will happen several times to find interesting and intersecting forms within the composition.
